Associate Therapist Jobs — Remote Counselling Jobs UK
Grow With Common Ground
Common Ground is a small but rapidly growing psychotherapy practice created by Tayler Remi, an integrative psychotherapist who supports people who feel too much, not enough, or like they're disappearing inside their own lives. We offer therapy for people navigating trauma, neurodivergence, burnout, identity, relationships and family difficulties, sexuality, grief, and the places where the old ways of coping have stopped working.
Common Ground works with a small number of self-employed associate therapists who share the practice’s values and clinical approach.
This is not a high-volume platform, agency, or directory model. Common Ground is being built slowly and intentionally, with a focus on clinical fit, shared values, thoughtful client matching, and sustainable practice. We're looking for therapists who want to be part of something relational, grounded, and clinically thoughtful — not just another listing on a website.
Private practice can be a lonely place to do this work. Common Ground exists partly to change that — a small team of practitioners who share real values, not just a referral pipeline. You'll have your own caseload and full clinical independence, but you won't be doing this entirely on your own.
Applications to join Common Ground are currently paused.
Thank you for your interest in joining Common Ground. We’ve received a thoughtful and encouraging response to our first associate recruitment round, and applications are currently paused while we speak with the therapists who have already applied.
Common Ground is intentionally being kept small. We want every therapist who joins the practice to have a clear place within the team, receive appropriately matched referrals, and have a realistic opportunity to build a sustainable caseload through the practice. We do not want to recruit a large associate pool and leave therapists competing for a limited number of enquiries.
We’ll reopen expressions of interest gradually as the practice grows and when there is enough demand to support additional associates. This page will be updated when applications reopen.
Essential requirements
To work as a Common Ground associate, you'll need:
A recognised counselling, psychotherapy, psychology, or therapeutic qualification
Current membership of a relevant professional body — BACP, UKCP, NCPS, HCPC, BABCP, COSRT, BPS, or equivalent
Current professional indemnity insurance
Regular clinical supervision, at least once a month
Willingness to align your advertised private practice rates with ours — see the FAQs for more info
Experience working with trauma and/or complex client presentations
Confidence working online
A clear, genuine commitment to neurodivergent-affirming and LGBTQ+/GSRD-affirming practice
Willingness to use Kiku and Common Ground systems and processes for referred clients
Additional training or experience in trauma, complex trauma, neurodivergence, somatic therapy, EMDR, IFS/parts work, CFT, couples therapy, and GSRD is especially welcome.
We're far less interested in whether you're accredited than in how you actually work. If you're newly qualified, please don't be put off — we want to hear from you too. What matters most to us is fit, values, and clinical thoughtfulness, not years in practice or letters after your name.

Common Ground is especially interested in hearing from therapists who bring depth, lived understanding, community connection, or specialist experience in areas that reflect the clients already seeking support through the practice.
We're particularly keen to hear from:
Therapists of colour
Therapists from immigrant, migrant, refugee, or diaspora backgrounds
First- or second-generation immigrant therapists
Trans and non-binary therapists
LGBTQ+ therapists
Disabled therapists
Neurodivergent therapists
Therapists with strong experience in trauma, complex trauma, somatic work, EMDR, IFS/parts work, CFT, GSRD, anti-racist practice, or neurodivergent-affirming therapy
Couples therapists, particularly those with neurodivergent-affirming and LGBTQ+ experience
When applying, there's no expectation to disclose anything personal — share only what feels relevant to your work. Anything you do choose to share will never be used in marketing, client matching, or your profile without your explicit consent — we'll always discuss this with you directly first.

Common Ground is for clients who often need more than surface-level coping strategies. Many come to us after feeling misunderstood, over-pathologised, dismissed, or harmed by previous therapy, services, systems, workplaces, families, or relationships.
The work often includes:
Trauma and complex trauma
Childhood emotional neglect and attachment wounds
Relational and sexual trauma
Coercive control, domestic violence or narcissistic abuse
ADHD, autism, AuDHD, masking, burnout, shutdown, and late diagnosis
LGBTQ+, trans, non-binary, sexuality, kink, and non-monogamy-related work
Racialised trauma, migration, diaspora, belonging, and cultural identity
Shame, people-pleasing, fawning, over-functioning, and self-erasure
Chronic illness, disability, grief, burnout, and identity loss
Family systems, estrangement, rupture, and intergenerational patterns
We're not trying to fix people into more acceptable versions of themselves. We're interested in therapy that helps people become more honest, more resourced, more connected to themselves, and more able to live without constantly abandoning their own needs.
-
Common Ground isn't looking for copies of one therapist, but you do need to share the practice's core commitments and values:
Trauma-informed pacing
Neurodivergent-affirming practice
LGBTQ+, trans, and GSRD inclusion
Relational depth and clear boundaries
A commitment to working reflexively — using supervision well, and staying open to rupture, projection, shame, avoidance, and your own part in the work
Genuine cultural competence and anti-oppressive practice — anti-racist, trans-affirming, and aware of how power and systemic harm show up in the room
An understanding that therapy happens within systems, not outside them
We're looking for therapists who can hold complexity without flattening it — working with race, migration, class, culture, religion, gender, sexuality, and disability without making clients educate you from scratch.
That means a genuine, lived commitment to social justice, equality, and accessibility — not a policy statement, but something that actually shapes how you think, how you hold sessions, and how you understand the conditions your clients are living within, offered with warmth and relational depth, without rescuing, over-functioning, or colluding.
What you get by joining us
Common Ground provides a held private practice structure without asking associates to build everything from scratch — referrals, marketing, systems, and admin, all handled, so you can focus on the clinical work you actually trained to do.
-
Client referrals through an established and growing therapy website, SEO, marketing, and a dedicated profile on the Common Ground website. Thoughtful enquiry flow and genuine client matching — not whoever's available fastest.
-
Full access to Kiku, the practice management platform that runs Common Ground. Secure, GDPR-compliant client data storage, customisable client contracts, and a clinical notes system built for therapists. Appointment scheduling and online booking, with automated reminders sent to both you and your clients. Card payment processing and billing tools, with weekly payments through Stripe — no chasing invoices, no calculating commission, no admin pile-up.
-
CPD, supervision, clinical hours, and expense logging, all in one place. Unlimited SAQ and psychometric forms, plus free templates and shared resources.
-
Emergency Clinical Executor access, so your clients are protected if anything ever happens to you. Our admin team carries out a weekly review of all appointments — checking for missed bookings or late payments — so nothing falls through the cracks and you're not the one having to track it down.
-
An optional, shared Common Ground WhatsApp group for associates — a place to connect, ask practical questions, and feel less alone in the day-to-day of private practice.
There's also the option to join a monthly peer supervision group: a casual, confidential space to reflect on your work alongside others doing similar work, in addition to your own individual supervision. Both are entirely optional — take part as much or as little as feels right for you.
The aim is simple: good-quality, well-matched private clients within a secure, professional system — without the constant pressure of marketing, chasing payments, managing separate admin tools, or building everything alone. You remain self-employed and clinically independent throughout.
Hi, I’m Tayler, the founder of Common Ground.
I started my own private psychotherapy practice at the beginning of 2025, genuinely not expecting much — and was surprised to find myself fully booked within a month. I've been fully booked ever since, which meant turning down enquiries I wasn't comfortable turning down, and running out of colleagues I trusted to refer people on to.
That's when it became clear there was a real gap — not for another generic therapy directory, but for a specialist, carefully curated group practice that actually understood neurodivergence, trauma, and LGBTQ+ experience as the deeply overlapping things they often are.
That's what Common Ground is. I built it alongside Kym Hackett, our Practice Manager, who also delivers The Clearing, our therapeutic support service.
As practice lead, I'm hands-on where it matters — clinical oversight, matching, and protecting the practice's values — and out of the way everywhere else. You'll have full clinical independence. I'm not interested in micromanaging how you work. I'm interested in building something genuinely collaborative, where being part of a team doesn't mean losing the autonomy that drew you to private practice in the first place.
If any of this resonates, I'd love to hear from you — we're genuinely excited to meet the people who'll help shape what Common Ground becomes.
Expressions of interest are currently closed. Please check back here for future recruitment rounds.
Questions you might have
-
EAPs and online platforms offer referrals and flexibility, but a recent report from the NCPS found widespread frustration with low pay, slow payment, unpaid admin, and inconsistent triage.
We believe therapists are worth far more than this. Common Ground associates take home £56 from an £80 session, paid weekly through Stripe with no invoicing or chasing.
Beyond pay, client matching is thoughtful rather than availability-led, and Kiku handles notes, contracts, payments, CPD, supervision, and admin — so you're not building everything from scratch. Associates remain self-employed and clinically independent, responsible for their own insurance, supervision, and CPD. The aim is something more held than working alone, and more coherent than platform-style referral work.
-
The standard Common Ground associate session fee is £80. Associates receive 70% of each session fee (£56), paid weekly through Stripe. Common Ground retains a 30% practice fee (£24), processed automatically through Kiku — covering referrals, marketing, website presence, practice infrastructure, payment processing, onboarding systems, admin support, and shared resources.
Associates don't need to invoice Common Ground manually, chase client payments independently, or calculate monthly commission.
If your current private practice rate is below £80, we'd still love to hear from you. We're open to a small number of reduced-fee places within the practice for therapists whose pricing reflects a genuine commitment to accessibility. The 30% practice fee applies in the same way regardless of rate — it covers the same referrals, infrastructure, and support for every associate, whatever they charge, and the take-home is still significantly more than most EAP or platform rates.
If you'd like to talk through how this works in practice, just get in touch.
-
There's no minimum caseload requirement — we'll discuss what feels sustainable for you, and this can grow over time as referrals build.
We're starting with a small number of associates so everyone gets a genuine flow of work; the practice will grow alongside us, not ahead of us.
You're welcome to hold your own private clients or work with other practices alongside Common Ground; you remain self-employed and in control of your own diary throughout.
-
You're free to leave at any time, and we'll always handle this with care and as little disruption as possible for your clients. If a client chooses to continue working with you after you leave, that's their choice to make — we won't stand in the way of that relationship. We'd just ask for reasonable notice so we can support a smooth transition for anyone still working with you.
-
When an enquiry comes in, we ask about availability, presenting concerns, and what the client is looking for, and match this against our therapist profiles.
Once there's a potential match, we introduce you using your Common Ground practice email, and you arrange a free consultation call directly.
If they decide to go ahead, we onboard them onto Kiku, take their first session payment, send out agreements and forms, and set up reminders. From there, the work is yours — full access to Kiku to manage your own caseload, with support always available if you need it.
-
At our core, we're a neurodivergent specialist practice — but we also specialise in the overlaps: trauma, identity, burnout, relational wounds, and emotional distress alongside neurodivergence.
We're not a crisis service and don't usually work with clients whose needs are better held by a higher-risk, multidisciplinary, or urgent-care service — including active suicidal intent, high-risk self-harm, acute psychosis, unmanaged addiction, severe eating disorder risk, ongoing domestic abuse where immediate safety planning is the primary need, or complex safeguarding concerns requiring statutory involvement.
We do work with clients who've experienced significant trauma and distress, but we're careful about what can be safely and ethically held in private practice. Associates need to know the limits of their own competence, use supervision well, and follow Common Ground's risk escalation process — you're never managing risk alone.
If a client presents with risk, you'll have direct access to Tayler for clinical guidance and support, as well as wider support within the team.
-
For any new clients going forward — whether through Common Ground or your own private practice — we'd ask you to align with our standard £80 fee. Existing private clients can stay at their current rate; this only applies from the point you join us onward.
If your current private practice rate is below £80, we'd still love to hear from you. We're open to a small number of reduced-fee places within the practice for therapists whose pricing reflects a genuine commitment to accessibility — just get in touch to discuss. The 30% practice fee applies in the same way regardless of rate, and your take-home will still be significantly more than most EAP or platform rates.
