Find a Neurodivergent-Affirming or Trauma-Informed Therapist
Finding the right therapist shouldn’t mean figuring it all out on your own.
When several therapists seem like they could help, knowing who might actually be right for you can be difficult.
Common Ground offers a bespoke therapist matching service to help you find a neurodivergent affirming or trauma-informed therapist based on what you need from therapy, how you’d like to work and what matters to you.
You don’t need to know which therapist you want or what type of therapy you need. Tell us a little about yourself and we’ll do the thinking with you. Matching is included as part of Common Ground at no extra cost.
How matching at Common Ground works
-
Tell us a little about what you’re looking for, what matters to you in therapy and when you’re available. You don’t need to know what type of therapy you need, choose a therapist yourself or have a formal diagnosis.
-
We consider your needs alongside each therapist’s experience, therapeutic style, availability, frequency and fee, then check with the therapist that they have capacity and feel the referral could be a good fit.
-
If you’re both happy to be introduced, we’ll connect you by email so you can arrange a free introductory call. You can then get a feel for one another and decide whether you’d like to go ahead.
Therapist matching is included at no extra cost.
Ready when you are
You can fill in as much or as little as feels manageable. There are no perfect answers, and you don’t need to know what type of therapy you need. The more you share, the easier it is for us to think about a good fit, but it’s completely okay to keep things brief.
What happens next?
Once you’ve sent your enquiry, we’ll read through what you’ve shared and think about which therapist may be the best fit.
We’ll consider things like what you’re looking for support with, the kind of therapist you might feel comfortable with, availability, frequency and fee.
If we have someone in mind, we’ll check with them first to make sure they have space and feel the referral could be a good fit. If you’re both happy to be introduced, we’ll connect you by email so you can arrange a free introductory call.
There’s no obligation to continue if it doesn’t feel right.
FAQ’s About Finding a Neurodivergent or Trauma-Informed Therapist
-
Finding the right therapist is about more than whether someone lists ADHD or autism on their website. It can also help to think about their understanding of neurodivergence, therapeutic approach, communication style and whether therapy can adapt around you. Common Ground’s matching service helps you find a neurodivergent affirming therapist based on your needs, preferences and availability.
-
Common Ground works with therapists supporting ADHD, autistic and AuDHD adults across areas including burnout, masking, executive functioning, identity, relationships and trauma. Matching looks beyond diagnosis alone so we can think about what you actually want help with and the kind of therapist who may suit you.
-
All Common Ground therapists work from a trauma-informed perspective. Different therapists also bring additional experience in areas such as complex and developmental trauma, relational trauma, medical trauma, EMDR, parts work and body-based approaches. The matching process helps us consider which experience and approach may fit what you’re bringing.
-
That’s completely fine. You don’t need to choose a modality or know what kind of therapy would suit you. Part of the matching process is helping you work that out.
-
No. We work with people who are diagnosed, self-identify as neurodivergent, are waiting for an assessment, are exploring whether they may be neurodivergent, or simply want therapy that takes neurodivergence into account.
-
Yes. You can tell us if one or more therapists have stood out to you. We’ll take that into account alongside their current availability and whether they feel able to support what you’re bringing.
-
No. Matching is part of Common Ground and there’s no additional charge for it.
-
That’s okay. A good therapeutic relationship matters, and you’re not committed just because you’ve been introduced to someone. You can come back to us and we can think again.
-
Yes. Every therapist who joins Common Ground goes through our recruitment process before working with clients. We check that therapists are appropriately qualified, professionally registered and insured, as well as considering their experience, approach and suitability for working within a neurodivergent-affirming and trauma-informed practice.
We also have our own practice procedures in place around areas such as safeguarding, confidentiality and client care. Choosing a therapist through Common Ground means you are not simply finding an individual online. They are working as part of an established practice with shared standards and processes around the work.
-
Common Ground is designed to make accessing and staying in therapy easier, particularly for neurodivergent clients. We know that finding a therapist is only one part of the process. Remembering appointments, keeping track of payments, knowing who to contact when something changes and having to start again if therapy unexpectedly ends can all create additional load.
That’s why the support around your therapy is part of the service. You’ll receive appointment and payment reminders, have a clear point of contact for practical questions, and have the wider Common Ground practice there if something changes with your therapist or you need help thinking about what happens next.
You also don’t have to search through dozens of profiles and work out the right fit alone. Our therapist matching service can help you find someone based on your needs, preferences and availability, and if the first match doesn’t feel right, you can come back to us.
You still have your own individual therapeutic relationship with your therapist, but you’re not navigating everything around that relationship by yourself.
